Lockout Returns

News broke today that Halo 2 fan-favorite multiplayer map Lockout is making a triumphant return to Xbox Live with a new look and a new name. Blackout will be one third of the Legendary Map Pack, along with previously announced Ghost Town and Avalanche (a spiritual successor to the first Halo’s Sidewinder). These three maps will be available for download on April 15, 2008 at a cost of 800 Microsoft points ($10).
I, for one, couldn’t be more excited that Bungie chose such a classic map and recreated it so faithfully. Why mess with a good thing? Lockout was the very first map I was match-made into that fateful day Halo 2 was released in November of 2004. That means it was the first map I was mercilessly slaughtered on, as well as the first map on which I accidentally plummeted to my death. Ah, memories.
In related news, the original set of downloadable maps, the Heroic Map Pack, is free starting today. All you patient cheapskates, this day belongs to you! Enjoy it.
